The Mobilink Super Engineer Competition 2012 – an interuniversity contest involving teams of students from the leading engineering universities of Pakistan working on real time technical projects – has been the most awaited talent recognition program of the year.
The Super Engineer Launchpad ceremony hosted by Mobilink on 18th May 2012 witnessed a lot of energy and excitement. Jawad Ali (Assistant Manager Recruitment, Rewards & Performance Management) kicked off the event with a brief introduction of the Super Engineer competition and welcomed the teams to present their projects. Each team gave a brief overview and was then introduced to the respective mentor.
Next on stage was Sarah Munir (Associate Recruitment & Employer Branding) who has been actively involved in the successful execution of the Launchpad ceremony and will now coordinate with the qualifying teams and their mentors during the project phase of this Competition. Following her, with a few words of motivation was Suleman Khan (Head of Organizational Development and Talent Management). He wished the participants best of luck for the next five weeks and inspired them to excel in their performance during the project development phase.
Following is a summary of all the teams who made it to the final cut for Mobilink Super Engineer 2012:
Team Members: Mahtab Rasheed (Team Leader), Saeed Anwar, Usman Ali, Majid Hussain Rajput
Team Mentor: Muhammad Ahsan Noor, Specialist VAS Planning (Technical Division)
Project Idea and Summary: “Improvement in Agricultural Information Flow using Web Enabled Mobile Phone Networks “
The students presented an idea which focused on the agricultural sector of Pakistan, and proposed the integration of this aspect with the telecom sector to benefit both parties.
Team Members: Jahangir Zafar (Team Leader), Muhammad Haris, Ahmad Salahuddin, Bilal Nasir
Team Mentor: Syed Umar Javed, Specialist Core Network Optimization (Technical Division)
Project Idea and Summary: “Social Network Analysis on CDR”
The team presented a project which dealt with the incorporation of social network analysis in a way that would provide the company with an unbeatable edge in the telecom sector. They planned to achieve this by analyzing call detail records and using the results for success.
Team Members: Syed Talal (Team Leader), Ishfaq Ahmad, Rana Junaid, Zeeshan Afzal, Jamal Afsar
Team Mentor: Sajid Iftikhar, Manager Data Core Engineering (Broadband and Carrier Engineering)
Project Idea and Summary: “Wireless Network Based Security Surveillance System”
The team presented their ideas about integrating telecom technology into developing disaster management systems and hardware.
4. NED Karachi
Team Members: Hira Hiba Khan (Team Leader), Mariam Aslam, Muhammad Haris, Shariq Nizami
Team Mentor: Haris Hasan (Technical Division)
Project Idea and Summary: “Real Time traffic Monitoring using Metlab”.
Student team from NED Karachi are developing a project based on the application of this concept.
Following campus drives, project screenings and short listings, these final teams will compete over the coming 5 weeks. Working in collaboration with their assigned mentors, they will actualize their projects which will then be evaluated by a technical jury. The winning team will get a guaranteed internship at Mobilink along with a job interview and exciting giveaways. This is not it, they will win the title of “Mobilink Super Engineer for the year 2012”!
What started in 2009 to engage the academia and identify high-potential technical graduates is now a regular annual competition with its own mascot –Mr Whiz. The Super Engineer platform provides an amazing mentoring opportunity to the participants as they collaborate with some of the best engineering professionals in the industry.
